At Tooth + Nail Studio 2018 S 1st Street in Suite 308
In this four week course, students will learn the basics of hand-building with clay. No prior experience is required. Techniques such as slab building, pinching, coiling, and carving will be introduced. We will also learn how to use studio equipment such as the slab roller and extruder. With these techniques it is possible to build anything from vessels to sculptures and beyond. All clay, glazes, tools, and firing fees are included in the cost of the class.
This class is taught by Reva Kashikar. She is the founder of Agni Clayworks, a small-batch production ceramics studio based in Milwaukee, WI. She is formally trained in ceramics, having completed her BFA in Studio Arts from the University of Oklahoma and her MFA in Ceramics from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work in functional ceramics explores the intersection of identity and human experience to understand and enhance the everyday with a focus on pattern, durability, and technique.
One free open studio session during the month of the class is included so that students can practice or complete extra work on their project. Once this four week course is completed, students are eligible to work in T+N’s studio independently during future open studio hours, usually scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays 1-4pm.
Registration is non-refundable less than 14 days before the start date of the class.
